Dear colleagues,
The Museums Association of the Caribbean (MAC) joins the world in solidarity with the people of Haiti in their time of crisis. We have monitored developments and extend our thanks to all persons, groups and governments who have given unselfish support in the rescue and humanitarian relief efforts and look forward to a sustained reconstruction effort.
MAC has been monitoring the status of heritage collections, sites and monuments and is pleased to learn that damage has not been as extensive as previously feared. However, we are aware that some important collections and structures have suffered varying degrees of damage and will require urgent expert attention. We are heartened to note that the Haitian Government has afforded this effort a measure of priority and look forward to the required rescue and restoration works in the near future.
MAC continues to collaborate with the International Council of Museums (ICOM) and pledges its full support in providing any assistance it can. In this regard, the MAC Board held a cyber meeting to discuss its involvement, which will be crafted within the more urgent needs of the Haitian museums at this time.

La Asociación de Museos del Caribe (MAC) se une al mundo en solidaridad con el pueblo haitiano en estos tiempos de crisis. Hemos monitoreado la evolución de los eventos y extendemos nuestro agradecimiento a todas las personas, grupos y gobiernos que han ofrecido su apoyo desinteresado al rescate y esfuerzos de ayuda humanitaria, y esperamos un sostenido esfuerzo de reconstrucción.
MAC ha estado monitoreando el estatus de las colecciones patrimoniales, sitios y monumentos y se alegra de que el daño no haya sido tan extenso como se temía inicialmente. Sin embargo, estamos conscientes de que algunas importantes colecciones y estructuras han sufrido daños de diversos grados y requieren una atención urgente por parte de los expertos. Nos alienta observar que el Gobierno de Haití ha dado alta prioridad a este esfuerzo y esperamos los trabajos de rescate y restauración en el futuro cercano.
MAC sigue colaborando con el Consejo Internacional de Museos (ICOM) y promete su pleno apoyo en la prestación de cualquier asistencia que pueda proveer. En este sentido, la Directiva de MAC celebró una reunión cibernética para examinar su participación, que debe ser diseñada de acuerdo a las necesidades más urgentes de los museos haitianos en este momento.
